Maple Grove Branch 12-7-18
Notes From The Nurse
Winter recess requires such clothing items as heavy coats, boots, snow pants, mittens and hats. Without such clothing, a recess period or lunch break spent outside can be a time of real discomfort for your child. Boots, in particular, are needed on snowy or wet days. If your child does not wear boots, he/she will be restricted to a small area of the sidewalk that is free of snow or puddles. We go outside for recess two or three times daily when the wind chill is five degrees or above.
The Giving Tree
As you may have noticed this past week, Maple Grove is continuing its annual tradition – the Giving Tree. This will help offer support to deserving families in our community. Paper ornaments will be hung on a tree near the office. Written on the ornaments are items that some of our deserving Maple Grove families would either enjoy or are in need of this holiday season. Parents and staff are encouraged to take an ornament with a specific gift listed that you are willing to purchase for that family. After the gift is purchased, place the gift-wrapped present under the tree with the ornament attached. The Giving Tree will end on December 14th – so please bring all presents to the building by that date. Thank you for helping us make the holidays a little brighter for our families!
Starting in January, we will be having Positivi-TEE days. On the first school day of every month, we encourage everyone to wear a shirt with a positive message on it, such as CHOOSE KIND, etc. Positivi-TEE dates will be: Wednesday, January 2nd, Friday, February 1st, Friday, March 1st, Monday, April 1st, and Wednesday, May 1st.

Tonight at 6:00 we will be having our Winter Movie Night in the Maple Grove gym. Join us to watch Elf and enjoy refreshments for purchase. Admission is free and the whole family is invited! Wear your PJs and bring blankets or chairs for your viewing comfort! The PTO hopes to see you there!
Lunch Menu Changes
With the change in seasons, it’s time for new menus! These menus started Monday, November 26th at all schools and run through March 1, 2019. Make sure to check them out to see when there will be new items and your all-time favorites!
We cordially invite families and staff to visit our Waukee APEX Showcase and 5-Year Celebration on Monday, December 10, 2018, from 6-8 PM at the Waukee Innovation and Learning Center. The APEX student associates teamed with our business partners to plan interactive displays perfect for all ages to share their project work from the semester in a fun way. We will also have colleges attending from across the state and local businesses and clubs setting up information tables that evening. A truly interactive opportunity to learn more about STEM, meet our partners and gather college and career information. This night is free and open to the public. We hope you will join us!
